Towards the end of 2007, I became deeply involved in the evaluation and interpretation of the art of the late Bill Redburn (who died in August 2006). In collaboration with his former partner, Toronto-based painter Pam Augustino, a retrospective exhibition of his work took place at the South Space Centre in Bradford, in January 2008.
Bill Redburn worked in West Yorkshire, London and Amsterdam , returning to his home city of Bradford in 2004, shortly before his untimely death. The Bradford exhibition surveyed his remarkable, but under-recognized achievement. A vocabulary deriving in part from Surrealism and Pop Art enabled him to examine with disturbing honesty and insight his own experiences of pain and loss.
Following the success of that exhibition, and with the help of several members of Bill's family and former friends, I have compiled a CD dealing with his work, entitled "Bill Redburn: a life in parts". This is available on request (see details provided in my Contact me page). This includes a brief biographical sketch of Bill, and an essay of critical appreciation both by me. A large selection of photographs provides a fairly full coverage of his work, the Bradford exhibition, and several items of biographical interest. |
