About Me

John Allcock
One of my earliest memories is of drawing. Although my career was made as a university teacher (becoming an internationally known expert on Yugoslav affairs) I retained intermittent contact with art, including some courses at the Bradford College of Art (subsequently the Bradford and Ilkley Community College — now the Bradford College).

For many years my artistic impulses had to be sublimated to a great extent through the design of display material. I took early retirement from the University of Bradford in July 2001, largely in order to paint and to climb. Since retirement I have continued to study part-time. Until that change of career my artistic output largely took the form of figurative paintings and drawings interpreting religious themes. More recently I have turned to landscape drawing and painting, although the underlying preoccupation with spirituality remains clearly present.
